I have found my wedding dress! As much as I’d love to blab all about it here on the interweb, I think it’s best to keep those details to myself for the time being. Now that the biggest decision has been made, I can now start to think about a few other pretty details, like my bridesmaids. I am going to leave it up to each girl to choose a dress they love and feel comfortable in, but I will give them a few guidelines.

I love the idea of having a color scheme in creams, whites and light neutrals. My only other requirement is to have them each chose something that has at least a little lace on it, just to tie in the whole vintage-y feel. There are so many options out there right now! Here are a few I’ve found so far, which are you favorites?

When my weekly cut-flower buying habit started to get out of hand, I replaced my usual kitchen table vase with a pretty potted plant. I saved money, and in my opinion, it’s just as pretty. For my wedding, I love the idea of replacing the usual cut flower centerpieces with an arrangement of potted plants! Then, after the big day, we can transfer the plants into the ground, creating a “wedding garden” to help us remember our special day for years to come! <3

As many of you may know, several weeks ago, my daughter and I attended a wonderful retreat hosted by Sigrid Olsen and Martha Abbott in Provence. Le Lavandin, a charming guest house in the lavender-filled French countryside, served as our home base. Art workshops, yoga sessions, sightseeing…and plenty of eating, shopping, sharing, laughing

…and bonding… filled our time… and the hearts… of our small group of women. We all left refreshed and with memories and inspiration to last a lifetime.

For a more in-depth look at the experience, here is a 10 minute slideshow:

Embarrassed by the number of bags I own, but I’d love to add this sweet polka dot number to my collection! From Hansel from Basel.

Impression – (im-presh’un) n. An effect, a feeling, or an image retained as a consequence of experience.

“Impressions of Italy” is a collection of paintings inspired by my recent trip to this vibrant and diverse country. Aside from the magnificent art, there was so much to discover…from the rolling hills of Tuscany to the charming, narrow streets of Firenze…

to the eternal city of Roma where history and ancient architecture mingle with espresso and motorbikes…and finally to the breathtaking island of Capri where pastel houses sparkle over vivid blue waters. I simply could not help but be inspired to paint!

Having spent an amazing 16 days in the French countryside and Paris, I am a loss to find enough words to adequately describe my experience. Week 1 was a Creative Retreat in Provence sponsored by Sigrid Olsen and Martha Abbott that I attended with my daughter and other new friends. Week 2 started with a Paris weekend, and then a road trip with my husband that took us from Provence to the Loire Valley to Normandy!

I will be sharing some slideshows and photos with you that may give you an absolute overdose…so here in my blog I have decided to try to capture the essence with some short lists … “France in 5’s” (through my eyes) …that I’ve created in retrospect. Enjoy!

5 passions of the French:1. Baguettes, pastries…and bakeries on every corner…with lots of espresso2. Cheese! 3. Wine4. Cycling5. Fashion (at least in Paris) and flowers… everywhere! Lavender, sunflowers, poppies, hollyhocks…..

5 places I want to return to: 1. Provence cottage in the middle of a lavender field2. Converted barn in the expansive fields of the Loire Valley3. Gardener’s Cottage near Giverny4. Saint Albergaty cottage near Avignon – former paper mill run by monks5. Normandy cottage near Lyon-de-Foret – owned by two painters

5 best tastes:1. fresh strawberries with cream (best I ever had!)2. croissants with lavender honey3. rose wine from Saumur, Loire Valley4. asparagus mousse5. lavender ice cream(sorry – not a fan of the meats…rabbit, duck, Andouille sausage, etc etc)

5 favorites sights: 1. the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night!2. the rolling fields… wheat in the Loire Valley and Normandy…sunflowers and lavender in Provence3. the amazing castles and the CARRIÉRES DE LUMIÉRES multi-media show of Gauguin and Van Gogh in Les Baux du Provence4. the outdoor markets!5. Monet’s garden, of course

Fascinating people we met:1. the 10 wonderful women on the Creative Retreat and Georgia Perrin – our hostess at Le Lavandin2. Brigitte – our charming non-English speaking hostess in Provence3. Steve and Tim – former restaurant owners from San Francisco who bought a beautiful property in the Loire Valley4. Nigel and Pam – our hosts in Vernon. He is from Scotland – she is from CA 5. Laeticia and Milan – two amazing painters living in the Normandy countryside

5 things I learned about myself:1. I love new adventure, yet I always adore coming home2. I crave more personal creative time, where I can work on projects start to finish, however small3. I want to invest more time and resources to create beautiful spaces 4. I am ready to empower my KDS team to a new level, with my creative direction 5. There is so much more I want to see, learn and do…and yet I always need to remember to build in plenty of solitude!

 Au Revoir!

I’ve had great friends who went this route for their wedding favors. As much as I love a sweet smelling bar of soap or a tasty jar of jam, you have to wonder how many of those favors actually get consumed. Choosing a charity is an excellent way of decreasing waste, giving your guests a glimpse of what you and your partner are passionate about and giving back.

It is definitely a way to help Scatter Joy!
