Unique finds, charming ladies, blooms of color, and silly animals are just a snippet of what you’ll see. But don’t take things too seriously - relax and enjoy your visit at The Menagerie!

The Menagerie is a collection of recent experiments- a foray into the familiar and unfamiliar in terms of techniques and mediums. I wanted to try a little bit of everything for this show and also wanted to include that notion in my creation process. The idea of a menagerie, an assortment of the strange and wildly diverse all come under one roof, has always fascinated me. After much pondering and playing around, I let my markers lead the way while I tagged along for the ride. My goal was to keep things fun and create an upbeat, off kilter environment for my audience to enjoy. The Menagerie, in all its oddities, is meant to be seriously enjoyed in every way and I hope you enjoy my idea of a menagerie as you embark upon this adventure.

Our gallery curator Maureen Flynn has been collecting silly junk email names over the past few years and we decided to put them to good use. For the upcoming group show "Who Dat???", each artist chose a name from the list and created a portrait of that person. It will definitely be an interesting and eclectic group of artwork!
Join us in the KDS Gallery next Friday January 27th from 5pm until 7pm.

A life in balance is an elusive thing. We’re faced with decisions every day that either bring about a deeper sense of wholeness and contentment, or a greater degree of stress and anxiety. My art is often a reflection of these two forces in my own life, and my ongoing efforts to understand what balance looks like for me. When I’m involved in the creative process, when I’m putting paint to paper or viewing the world through a camera lens, things become clear for me, and my work informs my life. The pieces in this collection reflect some of my thoughts and musings on the idea of balance, and the notion that one’s perspective changes everything.

Last week Katie Davis' solo show entitled BLUE graced the walls of our KDS Gallery. The cyanotype photographic prints were a huge hit. The ethereal nature of the pieces evoked a dream like feeling. The perfectly captured colors and textures sat beautifully in simple white frames. It was hard to choose one favorite to share, so below are a few that we really liked.
See you at the next show!

Last Friday night’s KDS Gallery Opening for our Artist Trading Card Show was a great collaboration of creatives. From young children to adults, all who participated in creating and trading were drawn together for the sole purpose of being creative. There were many discussions of technique and subject matter, as well as a lot of laughs. Below are a couple of photos to highlight some of the ATCs on display.
This unique opening was also chronicled live on Twitter. Photos of the ATCs were shared over the internet for people everywhere to see. You’ve got to love modern day technology! While we have your “hi-tech” attention, it’s a great time to remind you to “follow us” on Twitter, “like us” on Facebook, and check out the constant stream of new videos and visuals we are adding to YouTube and Flickr. Please tell your friends to keep up with us too, it’s going to be an exciting year at Kathy Davis Studios!

Artist Trading Cards, otherwise known as ATCs, are a spin off of the popular gaming cards or sporting cards. The only difference is that each card is a little work of art (2.5” x 3.5”) that is traded with fellow artists. Each card is an original work of art or can be created in small numbered editions.
The cards may be produced in any medium, style or theme – so the possibilities are endless! For those of you that are new to making artwork, there is no reason to be nervous since every skill level and age group usually attends these events. The main objective is to get together, have fun, make and trade artwork!
Some art supplies will be available the evening of the event but we recommend bringing some of your own supplies. We hope to see you at our trading card event where we will be creating and then trading our own original pieces of artwork!
One of our talented designers, Melissa Lomax has been attending ATC sessions for about ten years now and below is a card that she has created. She and the rest of our talented team will have a variety of their own ATC’s on display through February 21st.

"Nite Owl" by Melissa Lomax
Hi, this is Melissa! It was my turn this month to show my creations in our Kathy Davis Studios Gallery. What a great space this is! I was excited to share my work with a completely new audience. I have been working with mixed media for many years and have been creating my baubles for the last 5 years. Since moving here earlier this year from Indiana, I’ve had many people complement me on my jewelry.

I love playing with color and words. From sassy to inspirational sayings, I have designed hundreds of soldered glass pieces that have embellished many little girls and big girls alike. I love texture and different finishes – you will see that by the use of glitter and scanned textural paintings in my work. Letters in many styles have also been very successful for me.

I think the “idea” of HOME has played a significant part in my artwork over the last few years, as I was anticipating my move. These three collages express an ethereal feeling with their color and texture. The sentiment in each piece is poetic and evokes a dreamlike response.

Tonight is the night to come on over to KDS for a visit and opening reception for our new gallery show by our very own Kimberly Seslar. Drinks and light refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you!
